From Jake Conrad, member of AVTGNW and Centralia College Instructor:![]() For those of you with students looking to further their education and career opportunities, I have some information regarding the Bachelor of Applied Science in Diesel Technology Degree from Centralia College. We started the program in 2014 and are one of only four bachelors programs in diesel in the country. We are the only program on the west coast. We have achieved 100% job placement with our graduates and most have secured employment several months before graduating. We work with industry to provide paid summer internships and jobs while attending school. Our entrance requirements are simple: Proof of an earned associate's degree in diesel or automotive technology, heavy equipment mechanics, OR equivalent degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 Our BAS-DT students typically earn 25-40% more starting out than two year graduates. In state tuition is approx. $2,100/quarter for 15 credits and $2,500/quarter for 20 credits. Out of state tuition is 106% of in state tuition at approx. $2,226/quarter for 15 credits and approx. $2,650/ quarter for 20 credits. Currently in the diesel and automotive fields, less than 3% of technicians have a four year degree. Employer surveys show that they are looking for 10-15% of the technicians that are hired to have a four year degree. The opportunities for someone with an advanced degree in these fields are endless. This is the layout for student's junior and senior years followed by course descriptions for diesel specific courses.
