Central Oregon Community College 2018 was a remarkable year for Advanced Vehicle Training Group Northwest. With the incredible help of Future Tech Auto, we launched a membership drive that includes a subscription to Access-OnDemand. Access-OnDemand is the premier online training platform to help automotive industry service professionals and educators prepare for training and competency validation with vehicle electrification systems. As a college instructor, I am introducing the Lithium Ion sequence during my Hybrid/Electric Vehicle (HEV) class this winter. Historically, Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) has been the dominant technology in HEV batteries, and students have been well prepared to tackle issues that arise as well as “predictive maintenance”. As Lithium technologies become more prominent in aftermarket vehicle maintenance, it is clear that students will need to engage with it a well. This winter’s class, I anticipate great student interactions and enhancement of the classroom experience with live Lithium Ion batteries in the lab for testing and balancing. We are utilizing FutureTech's NxtGen Service Solution for these hands-on experiences. The live training offered at Portland Community College during summer 2018 was well received and well worth the investment as educators and industry representatives blend together to adapt and prepare for the transportation explosion of vehicle electrification. New AVTGNW member – Shoreline Community College (Seattle) – will also host a live class during the summer of 2019. As you all have watched the national and global transition over the last 20 years, I believe that you can all agree that 2019 will be the year on the electric drive industry. If you have not done so already, consider joining Advanced Vehicle Training Group NW. Your college – your company – your future.
